Connecting with the public is at the heart of neighbourhood policing. It allows us to listen, understand, and respond to the issues that matter most in our communities. We maintain a visible and regular presence across Hastings, with extensive foot patrols over the weekend, taking place throughout the town centre. Recently, we engaged with residents and businesses along Bohemia Road and in Silverhill, with a visible presence in Alexandra Park, and continued through the town to Cornwallis Gardens and the surrounding areas. While no specific concerns were raised during these patrols, we were pleased to speak with many members of the public and hear their thoughts. These conversations are invaluable in helping us stay connected and responsive. Keeping our communities safe is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to ongoing patrols across all neighbourhoods to ensure residents feel safe and supported. If you see anything concerning or simply want to speak with an officer, please don’t hesitate to approach us, we’re here to help.
We were called to a vehicle parked on a footpath and obstructing part of the highway in Hastings. The vehicle was causing a significant obstruction, to the public walking on the footpath and preventing buses from passing. Despite efforts to locate the owner, no one came forward. Due to the immediate impact on traffic flow and public safety, we had no option but to arrange for the vehicle to be removed. Vehicles parked irresponsibly not only inconvenience others but can pose real risks, especially for those having to step into the road to get round it. We would remind all drivers to park considerately and legally. If have parking concerns, such as vehicles parked illegally or causing inconvenience, please report them directly to the Parking Team at Hastings Borough Council, However, if a vehicle is causing an obstruction or posing a safety risk (e.g. blocking the road or pavement), please contact us on 101 so we can assess and take appropriate action.
A huge thank you to Seaview Nursing Home on Filsham Road, St Leonards, for inviting us to join their annual summer BBQ. Our team thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the residents, their families and friends, and the wonderful staff. It was an afternoon full of cheerful conversation, laughter, and genuine connection, the kind of community spirit we’re proud to support. Things took a rather unexpected turn when a menagerie of other guests arrived! Alice the snake, Ryan the bearded dragon, and Lola the tortoise certainly kept us entertained. Lola looked especially charming with a little extra protection in the form of one of our hats. We truly value partnerships like these and are grateful to Seaview for their warm welcome.
Following reports of speeding vehicles on St Helens Road, our neighbourhood policing team visited the area yesterday with our Speed Indicator Device to monitor traffic and speak with drivers. Speeding can have serious consequences, especially during the summer holidays when more children are out and about in their communities. Staying within the speed limit helps keep everyone safe - drivers, pedestrians, and families alike. We were encouraged to see that most drivers were aware of their speed and driving responsibly. It’s reassuring to know that the majority of road users take safety seriously, particularly in built-up areas. We remain committed to working with local residents to promote road safety and raise awareness about the dangers of speeding. For those who continue to exceed the speed limit, our focus is on education, and where necessary, we will take appropriate action to address the issue and help change behaviours that put lives at risk. If speeding is a concern in your area, you can join or set up a Community Speed Watch group with support from your local policing team. Please visit CSW website here Community Speedwatch Online Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone.
🏁👶 The Pram Race was a great community event, full of energy and good vibes, whether people were racing, cheering, or just soaking up the atmosphere, everyone was in good spirits. Our daily and evening patrols are continuing and play a big part in reassuring the public. They help us respond quickly to issues, offer support, and, best of all, give us the chance to speak with the public and local businesses face to face about any concerns.

During routine patrols in Hastings Town Centre yesterday, officers received reports from members of the public and local retailers regarding incidents of anti-social behaviour involving individuals from the street community. Being close by, officers were able to respond promptly and address the concerns raised. While those involved were initially dispersed, we are aware that individuals can sometimes return to the location. To prevent further disruption and safeguard the community, officers issued a Section 35 Direction to Leave. What is a Section 35 Direction to Leave? Our patrols will continue, and we encourage the public to report any concerns so that we can respond swiftly and appropriately. Have your say! You Said: Concerns were raised about vehicles speeding along Filsham Road, St Leonards. We Did: Deployed both our Speed Indication Device and handheld speed monitoring equipment to assess driver behaviour and raise awareness of the risks associated with speeding. During our operation, several vehicles were recorded travelling at speeds over 37 MPH - well above the limit for a residential area. This is unacceptable and poses a serious risk to pedestrians, especially children. Our Message: Speed limits exist to protect lives. Even a few miles per hour over the limit can significantly increase the likelihood and severity of a collision. In residential areas, the consequences can be tragic. We will continue to educate drivers on the dangers of speeding and, where necessary, take enforcement action to ensure compliance. Please drive responsibly. Stick to the speed limit. Help us keep all our communities safe for everyone.
