We know how important it is to help children understand how to stay safe, and we were delighted to visit the Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 classes at Westfield School to do just that. We spoke with the younger pupils about road safety, safer strangers, and what to do if they ever get lost or separated from their grown-ups. We know how confident little ones can be when it comes to crossing the road, so we used pictures, stories, and stickers to help them understand why it’s still important to hold hands and stay alert. With the older children, we had some great conversations about online safety, especially around what to do if someone they don’t know tries to contact them. Their questions showed just how engaged and aware they are, which was fantastic to see. Of course, no visit would be complete without a chance to try on some police uniform and explore the police car - which, as always, was a big hit! Thanks to Westfield School for having us, it’s always a pleasure to spend time with the next generation and help them learn how to stay safe in a fun and friendly way.
We popped along to The Robertsbridge and Brightling Repair Café at Robertsbridge Village Hall to meet and chat with the local community. We also met the wonderful volunteers who run the café and provide free repairs, including tool sharpening, small electricals, fabric repairs, bicycles, and other items. They also support recycling, with some items donated to Tools with a Mission, a charity that sends usable tools to organisations in Africa. The next Repair Café is on Saturday 20th September, 9:00–11:45am, and we’ll be there again to speak with anyone who wants to raise a local policing issue. Everyone is welcome.
Sergeant Mele and PCSO Demi Georghiou were proud to attend the Icklesham Parish Council meeting, where Demi was formally recognised for his outstanding contribution to the local community. PCSO Georghiou was presented with a certificate of recognition by the Chair of the Parish Council, acknowledging his continued dedication and proactive approach to tackling anti-social behaviour in the area. His efforts have led to several positive outcomes, helping to improve safety and reassurance for residents. This recognition reflects the strong partnership between Sussex Police and the local community and highlights the impact that committed neighbourhood policing can have in making our communities safer and stronger. Congratulations Demi!
It’s been a fantastic and busy week in Bexhill as the town came alive with the annual Carnival celebrations. As always, the event brought together a wonderful mix of local residents and visitors, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere throughout the week. Good to see so many people enjoying the festivities, supporting local groups, and celebrating everything that makes Bexhill special. Neighbourhood Policing Teams were out in town daily, not only to ensure everyone’s safety but also to take the opportunity to chat with the community. Events like this give us a valuable chance to speak with residents and businesses, listen to concerns, answer questions, and build stronger relationships. We’re pleased to report that the event passed without incident, and the good spirits of the crowd made our job that much easier. It was a real pleasure to see families, young people, and community groups coming together and having such a great time. Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with us.
