Important Notice to Dog Walkers: Livestock Worrying Is an Offence

Many fields in Rother and other rural areas contain livestock, and whilst you may believe your dog would never harm another animal, the mere presence of a dog chasing livestock can have devastating consequences. Animals may die from shock or pregnant livestock may lose their unborn young, causing both emotional distress and financial losses to farmers.

Sheep and cattle worrying is a criminal offence. If your dog is involved in such an incident, you could face prosecution and substantial financial penalties. Please be aware that farmers have the legal right to shoot dogs that are endangering their livestock.

Whilst we want the public to enjoy Sussex's beautiful countryside, we ask that you please respect rural protocols. There are numerous designated footpaths available, which can be accessed via the East Sussex County website: https://orlo.uk/bsUgf. These paths include proper access points with gates and stiles.

If you are ever uncertain, always keep your dog on a lead.

Heading out this weekend, have you heard about StreetSafe?

StreetSafe is an online tool where you can anonymously tell us of locations where you feel unsafe.

You can use StreetSafe to pin areas on a map where you feel or have felt unsafe, even if a crime hasn't happened. It's an online tool that you can access via the Sussex Police website here http://spkl.io/6189fK3XZ or scan the QR code below.

We'll use this information to assess measures, actions and initiatives to improve public safety and your feelings of security.

Please note that StreetSafe isn’t an alternative tool to report crime. If you wish to report a crime for non-emergencies either report online or call 101. In an emergency always call 999

Operation Downsway is now active for spring and summer.

From April to September, Sussex officers will maintain both visible and unmarked presence across the county's road network. They will focus on engagement, education and enforcement where needed. Through active engagement with road users, we strive to reduce collisions and fatalities on our roads.

Help us identify road safety issues affecting your community by completing our survey: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/BJUMAK/. Your input will help pinpoint areas requiring attention during our summer safety initiative.

(Please note – we do not fix potholes🕳️, but they can be reported to East Sussex County Council here)

Throughout Rother, police neighbourhood officers have maintained a comprehensive schedule of daytime and evening patrols in an around our towns and villages. These regular patrols have provided invaluable opportunities to engage with our community, including local residents, business owners, shoppers and visitors to our neighbourhoods.

During our foot patrols, we have spoken to many people regarding various concerns, particularly focusing on anti-social behaviour and business-related crime. Our officers have also addressed numerous other matters brought to our attention by community members, demonstrating our commitment to responsive, community-focused policing.

we remain steadfastly and committed to maintaining open channels of communication with our community. We recognise that effective policing requires active listening and swift responses to incidents that affect our residents' quality of life. Furthermore, we continue to strengthen our collaborative relationships with partner agencies, whose specialised expertise proves essential in addressing the multifaceted challenges our communities face.

Through this coordinated approach, we are better positioned to implement lasting solutions to the issues that matter most to our residents, whilst ensuring that Rother remains a safe place for everyone.
