See or hear something we need to know about? Report to us 24/7 online or by phoning us on 101.

Bikes seized

We've been receiving reports of dangerous, anti-social use of off road bikes.

Following these reports, we'd increased our patrols around Hailsham and Hellingly.

The bikes pictured have since been seized in Hellingly and the rider identified, after being ridden dangerously on and off the road.

The public play a huge part in keeping our communities safe by reporting things to us that we might not be aware of. If you see or hear something that you think we should know about - report it!

Court result

A Hailsham club administrator has been ordered to pay back funds she plundered.

Jeanette Gardner, 66, of Meadow Road, Hailsham, abused her position and almost bankrupted the Hailsham Memorial Institute.

She has been ordered to pay the club £147,000 in a hearing at Brighton Combined Court.

Gardner used the money in part to fund a lavish lifestyle, which included foreign holidays, West End shows and group outings.

Distraction theft

Distraction theft can happen quickly and comes in a variety of forms.

We had two reports of distraction theft in Uckfield last week, resulting in the theft of handbags, money, cards and phones being taken.

One report was from a woman, who while in her car in a car park had a male tap on her window. He told her that she had fluid leaking from the rear of the vehicle. When she got out to look, the male opened the passenger door and helped themselves to her phone that had her bank cards in. The cards were then used to the value of £499 and £599.

The second report was of a male who engaged in conversation with a female and took her bag without her realising.

Be cautious of people who approach you in public spaces who are being overly friendly, helpful, or ask for your help - they may be trying to distract you.
